Iridessian genders

An early Rennaisance marble bust of the influential Iridessian philosopher Chanstimanius Block. As can be seen from the shape of his head, he was male.

The Iridessian species has so many genders that it needs its own article. There are 32 genders in total, plus 5 in the unofficial expansion pack. 20 of the genders are derived from the biological sexes, while the other are cultural in origin.

Here's a list of some:

A list of some:

  1. Male. Fairly similar to the human male form, except with cube-shaped face. The reason this is a separate gender is because the head is incompatible with the dodecahedron hole of some of the other genders.
  2. Female. Very similar to the human female form, except with a really long arm. This feature is mainly for hunting. Male Iridessians are ineffective at hunting, because their heads are not aerodynamic, so the females evolved long arms for basically just grabbing prey from a distance. Males and Females can reproduce together, producing an egg, which usually produces another Male or Female child.
  3. Very Female. This is basically what you get when you take a picture of a woman and a picture of a man and let a computer extrapolate to 200% woman. They also have 4 breasts but still only 2 nipples. Both of their arms are extremely long (longer than the long arm of a normal Female), and can go into Bendy Mode, where the arm bones temporarily turn into gelatin. Very Female people are compatible with Males, and always produce twins.
  4. Fromaggio. This gender consists of one person: Fromaggio, a man with stretchy cheese limbs. He formed during a dairy factory meltdown.
  5. Light people. Because they're made entirely of photons, they're incompatible with all other genders.
  6. Crittergems. Also called Shimmerlings. People of this gender are incredibly short, sometimes amounting to only a head with feet. Their bodies are entirely made out of Iridessian crystals, which gives them great control over the magical Gauthic energies that pervade the Iridessian Empire. However, they are often discriminated against for their small size, and, as a result, tend to work as servants for other people. Crittergems form during scenes of great emotion nearby a field of Iridessian crystals. This method has been used to farm them. They can also reproduce, in a process where the parent Crittergems allow some of their consciousness to be sapped by a Cognesiast, after which they slam the Cognesiast into a crystal at a high velocity, infusing the crystal with sentience with a 35% probability.
  7. Cognesiasts. These are dog-sized slime-covered brain blobs with tentacle-like protrusions that allow them to slither around. They feed on the consciousness of other creatures. They are formed when an Iridessian fetus that would normally be either Male, Female, or Very Female ends up getting neither male nor female chromosomes from their parents, which prevents their body from developing. As a result, all energy during pregnancy goes to the brain. Cognesiasts usually only live to the age of 15, due to the debilitating energy cost of puberty. The exception to this is if they reproduce asexually before this time, by splitting apart. This reduces the cognitive complexity of each individual Brainlet, allowing them to pass through puberty relatively unharmed. After puberty has passed, they sometimes reunite into one big brain again, though this usually results in personality disorders. After this point, Cognesiasts can continue to grow by absorbing consciousness, and can keep splitting apart indefinitely.
  8. The Florim. This gender consists of normal Males who are convered in flowers and other elegant looking plants, as their body is infused with a semiotic plant structure. This is the result when, during an early stage of pregnancy, an incompletely digested plant seed reaches the fetus, and starts growing on it. This also happens to Female fetuses, but results in their death, because while usually the long arm of the Female fetus is a soft spaghetti-like noodle during gestation, the plant matter causes it to prematurely harden and straighten, ripping open the womb and killing the mother. Since all Florim are Male, they can only mate with other Florim via pollination. However, they can also mate with normal Females, which produces a Florim, Male, Female, or other child depending on circumstance.
  9. Geopharynx. Gaping hole in the ground that breathes and screams, occasionally capable of intelligent conversation. As it goes down, the hole shifts from a rocky texture to a fleshy one. No one has found the bottom of one. Can slowly move a couple steps every day. Despite their unusual look, they have been identified by mages as belonging to the Iridessian species. They can reproduce when fed enough bird eggs. They combine the eggs into one large egg which they then spit out. Upon breaking, the egg leaks out an acrid liquid, which burns a new Geopharynx into the ground. It is unclear how the first Geopharynx formed.
  10. Oviflexor. This gender plays an important role in the reproduction of other genders. It consists of little red creatures with big hands, who are mostly made out of muscle. When a Female gets pregnant, they begin forming a large egg in their stomach. Without intervention, this egg hardens and cannot leave the womb. This is where the Oviflexors help, by entering the womb and using their muscles to continually squish the egg, so that it fails to harden. While in the womb, the Oviflexors drain some of the Female's food resources, and mate with each other (they are hermaphroditic and inseminate eachother via direct muscle contact), laying small eggs inside the womb, which hatch inside. The first few months of an Oviflexor's life are spent learning how to swim and absorb nutrients in a Female's womb, after which they leave the Female's body and learn how to walk. The Oviflexors are very caring, and support their child during this process.
  11. Mindrover. Certain Iridessians are born with the ability to send their mind to another person's body, and look at the other person's mind from the inside. Here, they can live for an indefinite period of time, exploring the host's mind as if it were a palace, or a planet. Occasionally, they lose the ability to control their own body, due to having been embedded in other minds for too long. At that point, they are called Mindrovers. Mindrovers can mate with each other inside of a host's mindworld, and can even mate with the psychological avatar of the host themselves. This has resulted in fairly large populations of Mindrovers, which can be a psychological drain on the people they inhabit. Hence, Mindrovers are often seen as parasites, and people who host Mindrover are considered to be sick. The only known ways for a Mindrover to die are if the host dies, or if the Mindrover is killed in the mindworld by blunt trauma, sickness, poisoning, and the like.
  12. Meta Mindrover. Same as a Mindrover, except they take other Mindrovers as their host. The maximum recursion depth is 17 minds deep, after which a Strange Loop occurs, and the mindworld becomes the entire universe.
  13. Shattermist. A haze of blood and gore oscillating at an incredibly high frequency, destroying almost anything it comes into contact with. Such a cloud is the result of a high-energy Gauth portal opening directly inside an Iridessian, infusing their body with pure inter-dimensional energy. By controlling their oscillation, a Shattermist can produce sounds. They have been verified to be capable of using primitive language, though, similar to Geopharynges, they mostly produce indecipherable roars and high-pitched rhythms. They reproduce by touching any other Iridessian, which produces another Shattermist if their energy is high enough.
  14. Charred One.
  15. Grimefiend. Just a heinous little fella. A most abominable buddy.

Socially constructed

  1. A Computryst is a mathematical entity whose existence is implied whenever two or more romantically involved Iridessian's are engaged in computations of a certain complexity. Smerg constructed this concept and mathematically proved it is a gender, as part of his 1729-page PhD thesis, which proved P=NP.
  2. Athletus.
  3. Lexicopia.
  4. Threemale.
  5. E-Male.
