They are dangerous because of the Scrumtrees.

The Scrumtrees bear Scrumfruit, which contains trace amounts of meme juice, which makes beasts who eat from the trees incredibly dangerous.

The Scrumtrees are in fact the protective wooden mech-exoskeletons of Scworm eggs.

Scworms are worm-like creatures that collect trace amounts of meme juice over their life, and migrate to the Scrumgeons to mate.

During egg laying, the Scworms inject all their meme juice into their eggs, which enables the eggs to built Scrumtrees around them.

The Scrumtrees will walk around and perform battle to protect the Scworm eggs they hold.

The Scrumfruits are the Scrumtrees last resort. They can drop these delicious treats to distract predators.

The word "scrumptious" derives from the Scrumfruit, for there's nary a snack more succulent and sumptuous than Scrumfruit.

Many adventurers go into the Scrumgeons in hopes of collecting Scrumfruit.

Few survive.
