An avatar can be any sort of vessel which can be possessed by a spiritual entity, usually as some type of machine or mechanoid. They come in all shapes and sizes and are unique in their appearance. Some entities can even own multiple avatars to switch between.

Avatar is a broad term which can refer to anything possessable, this includes the human body and other complex biological life-forms. What people are usually referring to when they say "avatar" are mechanoids which is a more strict term used to differentiate between biological life and mechanical life, characters who fit under this sub-category include Xzyckon and Xanthar.

The terminology became popularised from gamerfacts who would often describe their bodies as being their avatar.
