The history of Dwaia is long and complex, and its origins are shrouded in mystery and a pungent odour reminiscent of Bogobins. Through the efforts of countless scholars, a rough outline of the earliest known events has been collected together from fragmental evidence, sheer speculation, and flagrant disregard for the privacy of libraries.

Early Era

Everyone used to travel through dimensions as easily as you would take a walk, doing whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, since the dawn of time before time. Speculated origin of the Iridesyne Empire.

There was a consciousness named Demi around this point (everyone now calls him Demi as that's all that remains in the ancient scriptures that have slowly degraded over the years). Demi was whole and at that time just your average omnipotent being, when another god Azai (now the patron god of Dwaia) dropped a small object into the cosmic machinery somewhere in hyperbolic n-space. This event (now known as the Coin Incident) sent shockwaves through all the dimensions of space, time, and egg. It made reality grind to a halt, ejecting everyone out into the newly formed world of Dwaia. Dwaia as it is known today was created when the multiple dimensions sheared apart under the stress of the machines trying to move against the obstruction. As emergency measures engaged the dimensions collapsed into a crude 3D cubic world, many fell to the dark ways of Evil Land as they were stripped of their godhood. After a few centuries enough time had passed that everything roughly normalised, or what passes for normal on Dwaia was achieved. Societies emerged, and the old ways were largely forgotten apart from rumours of ancient writings, stories of cults in the heavens, and theories on the core of Dwaia and beyond.

Demi happened to be standing on the primordial spire at the time of the breaking of reality, and was shattered into eight along with the spires that went on to form the corners of Dwaia. These spires were formed as reality collapsed as an emergency procedure, and they hold out the extra dimensions. As Dwaia folded into reality, Demi became aware of his situation and his inability to become whole, as every step he took between spires was taken by all other portions of himself, simply rotating all eight Demis around. He has since spent his time trying to reunite himself, setting up the Cult of 8 to aid him in his quest to shatter the spires that keep the extra dimensions away, and thus to bring about a final collapse and supposedly new golden age of the cosmic all (as far as anyone can smell).
